Driving and Accelerating Maritime Decarbonization: The DE-CARB-MAR Project

The Deliberative Engagement and Collaborative Action for Maritime Decarbonization and Reform (DE-CARB-MAR) is a study that underpins maritime emission forecasting. The purpose is to enhance evidence which can address future uncertainties of fuels and technology through anonymous feedback. The mode of study is a multi-stakeholder, multi-dimensional Delphi study. Through iterative rounds of anonymous feedback, the study aims to build consensus, refine model assumptions and provide robust insight for developing effective and future-proof maritime decarbonization policies. The goal is to strengthen stakeholder buy-in and pave the way for a sustainable and environmentally responsible maritime sector.

To create more ambitious, realistic and future-proof regulations through Delphi study findings to help guide meaningful maritime decarbonization efforts and support a just and accelerated transition toward a low carbon global fleet.

  1. Reduce uncertainties by clarifying the potential of emerging technologies as well as its limitations to inform decision making.
  2. Enhance policy development through evidence-based, effective dissemination of information of future proof maritime emission policies.
  3. Promote collaboration to foster dialogue and knowledge sharing among stakeholder to build consensus.
  4. Supporting a just transition by considering the needs of developing countries, ensuring an equitable transition.
